What is Invisalign?

Invisalign® is the most popular clear aligner aligner system in the world. We have been
using the system at Romsey Dental Care for many years with exceptional results and 100% patient satisfaction.

Using clear aligners (not metal braces) we can correct the most minor discrepancies in tooth position or overcrowding to more advanced complications in a pain free, predictable and timely manner. Aligners are a convenient and invisible way to straighten your teeth with minimal impact on your professional, home and social life. Invisalign® works by using a series of clear, Smarttrack® plastic aligners which are designed using the latest 3D printing and scanning technology. When you start your treatment you will be able to see a virtual 3D simulation (Clincheck) of how your teeth will move over time.

The aligners gradually move your teeth, painlessly and step by step. Every couple of weeks you will change your aligners to the next set until they are perfectly straight.

At Romsey Dental Care we offer a no obligation complimentary Invisalign consultation.

Your Invisalign Journey

Consultation

This is the first step on your journey to a new smile. The dentist will check your teeth and soft tissues ensuring you are in good dental health to start the treatment. Your suitability for Invisalign is also assessed so we can give you the best possible treatment options.

Scan

Once your teeth and soft tissues have been checked you will have some photos taken and a scan made of your teeth. The dentist will ask you some more questions about what you want to achieve whilst our state of the art iTero scanner uses artificial intelligence to generate a smile simulation. After around 5 minutes we will be able to show you what your teeth might look like after Invisalign treatment. It is at this stage the dentist may talk to you about other considerations such as tooth whitening, composite bonding or veneers. The consultation and smile simulation is complimentary and will take around 20-30 minutes.

Check and approve

If you like what you see and wish to move to the next step we need to send the scan to our skilled technicians to start the treatment planning process. This is called the Clincheck and it forms the basis for everything that happens from now on. The Clincheck shows us what we can and can’t do, and it usually comes back within 24-48 hours, sometimes even quicker! Once the Clincheck is back the dentist will sit down and discuss it with you, you’ll discuss; the risk and benefits of treatment, bonding of attachments, IPR (if required) and likely duration of treatment. If you are happy and approve the design we send for the custom made aligners to be manufactured.

The cost of sending your scan for Clincheck is £200. If you decide to proceed with treatment the £200 will be deducted from the cost, if you decide not to proceed then nothing further is payable.

Get going!

By far the most exciting part of the journey, fit day! You will come into the clinic to have your aligners fitted, this will involve the bonding of attachments and any other necessary treatment required to create your smile (treatment requirements are all discussed at the Clincheck phase). The dentist will reinforce what you can and can’t do and it’s off you go! You will start to see your teeth move with each aligner and you can expect to see the dentist every 6-8 weeks.

Retain

Once your teeth are in the correct position we need to hold them there or you risk them moving back, this is called retention. Everyone who undergoes Invisalign treatment (or any treatment to move the tooth) needs to wear removable retainers (ideally for life), some also choose or are advised to have fixed retainers (thin wires glued behind the teeth). Failure to wear retainers at the end of treatment is likely to result in the teeth moving back to where they started.

Digital Dentistry

Kevin and the team at Romsey Dental Care are embracing the advancements in digital dental technology to provide predictable, reproducible and clinical excellence for our patients.

We use the iTero 5D plus digital scanner to make an accurate 3D model of your teeth which can be used to monitor wearing of the teeth due to grinding, movement of the teeth and make crowns, bridges, veneers and dental implants, and all without the gungy dental impression material.

We also use the iTero scanner to simulate the movement of teeth using Invisalign and to design a smile prior to starting any treatment.

Digital Smile Design

Digital smile design is the most patient focused treatment planning concept we have ever seen in dentistry, you are fully involved in your planning from the very start.

Using photographs, digital scans and clever computer programmes we design what you want your teeth to look like from the shape, size and even the colour. You can look at this from the comfort of your own home, work place or even on the train from a laptop, tablet and your smartphone. We then print the design (using modern 3D printers) and transfer that design to your mouth. You will actually see what YOUR new teeth look like, in YOUR mouth before the dentist has picked up a mirror.

You can take photos to show friends and family before committing to any treatment and this is made possible by Romsey Dental Care investing heavily in digital dental technology to deliver the best outcomes for our patients.

Digital x-rays

We use digital films for all X-rays including full jaw panoramic X-rays. Digital images are available instantly providing exceptional clarity, reproducibility and easy comparison.

The image sensors are more comfortable than wet films and they can be done from the comfort of the dental chair.

Intra-oral and digital cameras

Our surgeries are equipped with high quality intra-oral cameras which help you see what we see in an instant on the screens. We also use digital SLR cameras for close up detailed shots of your teeth.
